I’ve become more interested in nootropics from the productivity side rather than looking for some crazy gym performance boost for bodybuilding being able to stay focused during work, meal prep, programming & training can indirectly make consistency much easier the problem is that the nootropics space is full of big claims & products with very different levels of evidence ive found it more useful to look at sleep, caffeine habits, hydration & stress first before experimenting with anything else Another thing I pay attention to is whether something actually improves focus without messing up sleep later that night what has everyone here learned from trying to improve focus and mental performance?
Sleep was honestly the biggest nootropic for me once that was consistent every thing else became much easier to judge.
I learned to stop stacking a bunch of different things together if something works or doesn't you actually want to know what caused it.
The best takeaway for me brother is that mental performance is part of bodybuilding but it still has to fit the bigger picture & If something helps concentration but creates anxiety, poor appetite or bad sleep thats not really helping my physique i’d rather have steady energy and a routine I can maintain for years than chase a temporary feeling of being extremely focused.
My practical approach is to fix the environment before reaching for supplements. Phone away
training plan written down
meals prepared
caffeine controlled
a consistent sleep schedule
Once those pieces were handled i could actually tell whether I had a genuine focus problem or was simply distracted and under-recovered.

I think the evidence question is important because nootropic covers a massive range of substances. Some have much more research behind them than others while supplement quality can vary considerably I’d rather evaluate one thing at a time check whether there’s credible evidence and avoid treating an internet trend like a guaranteed performance tool.Jonòn01 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2026 6:41 pm I’ve become more interested in nootropics from the productivity side rather than looking for some crazy gym performance boost for bodybuilding being able to stay focused during work, meal prep, programming & training can indirectly make consistency much easier the problem is that the nootropics space is full of big claims & products with very different levels of evidence ive found it more useful to look at sleep, caffeine habits, hydration & stress first before experimenting with anything else Another thing I pay attention to is whether something actually improves focus without messing up sleep later that night what has everyone here learned from trying to improve focus and mental performance?
Caffeine timing made a bigger difference for me than I expected taking it too late was destroying the recovery I was trying to improve.Jonòn01 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2026 6:41 pm I’ve become more interested in nootropics from the productivity side rather than looking for some crazy gym performance boost for bodybuilding being able to stay focused during work, meal prep, programming & training can indirectly make consistency much easier the problem is that the nootropics space is full of big claims & products with very different levels of evidence ive found it more useful to look at sleep, caffeine habits, hydration & stress first before experimenting with anything else Another thing I pay attention to is whether something actually improves focus without messing up sleep later that night what has everyone here learned from trying to improve focus and mental performance?
Totally agree man I’ve found that taking a more evidence based approach makes it much easier to separate something genuinely useful from clever marketing testing one variable at a time also gives you a clearer idea of what’s actually making a difference instead of guessing.GymVeteran wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2026 6:47 pmI think the evidence question is important because nootropic covers a massive range of substances. I keep my expectations pretty realistic better focus can help training quality but it isn't going to replace motivation or programming.
Tracking is useful here i look at focus, energy, sleep quality and training performance instead of judging something after one good workout.
