I'm trying to lean out without running myself into the ground. At what point does a calorie deficit start messing with your energy, recovery, and overall performance? Curious what strategies have helped you keep the cut moving while still feeling decent in the gym.
For me, the first thing that goes was recovery. I'd rather run a smaller deficit and keep training hard than slash calories and feel like absolute garbage every day.
Yeah bro, when your workouts start feeling flat and you're dragging ass all day, that's usually my sign that the cut is getting too aggressive. No point losing weight if your training completely falls apart.
I keep protein pretty consistent and don't go crazy cutting carbs. Having some carbs around training makes a huge difference for me, especially on leg days.
Sleep is huge during a cut too. I can handle being a little hungry, but once sleep starts getting wrecked, everything else seems to go downhill with it.M34Daniel wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2026 6:53 pm I'm trying to lean out without running myself into the ground. I've had better results with a slow grind. Losing a little each week while keeping my lifts mostly steady beats dropping weight fast and looking flat as hell.
That's kinda where I'm at right now. I don't mind being hungry, but I'm starting to notice my workouts aren't hitting the same. Might be better to ease up a little instead of trying to force the scale down.
I usually look at performance first. If strength, recovery, mood, and sleep are all taking a hit at once, I'd rather adjust the plan than keep pushing just because the scale is moving.
Don't forget water and electrolytes either. Sometimes what feels like "I need less food" is just being under-hydrated and beat up from training.
Cutting sucks when you rush it, lol. I'd rather take a couple extra weeks and actually look good at the end than crash diet, lose strength, and have to spend months getting everything back.
