The Role of RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) in Coaching

by CycleStrategist » Tue May 06, 2025 8:30 am

RPE is a subjective but powerful tool for gauging training intensity and load.
Using a scale of 1-10 (or 6-20), RPE helps:
  • Athletes tune into their bodies and develop self-awareness.
  • Coaches understand how the athlete is feeling, especially for remote coaching.
  • Adjust workouts on the fly based on fatigue, stress, and external factors.
  • Complement objective data (HR, power) for a holistic view.
"Listen to your body; it's always telling you something."
How often do you use RPE in your coaching?
