Walk into any supplement store and you'll see shelves full of whey protein, mass gainers, pre-workouts, and expensive muscle-building products. But here's the thing: do you really need all that stuff to build a solid physique?
A lot of experienced lifters stick to basic grocery store foods like eggs, chicken breast, lean ground beef, Greek yogurt, oats, rice, potatoes, beans, and peanut butter. These everyday staples can help you hit your protein goals, stay on top of your macros, and fuel tough training sessions without spending a crazy amount of money.
Whether you're trying to lean bulk, put on serious size, or improve your strength, consistency matters more than having the fanciest supplement stack. Smart meal prep, enough calories, progressive overload, and proper recovery can take you a long way.
Let's hear from the gym crowd: Are grocery store foods enough to support serious gains, or do supplements make a noticeable difference in your lifting routine?

Eggs, chicken, rice, and oats. That's my bulk right there

No expensive stack needed!

I switched to buying ground turkey, potatoes, Greek yogurt, and peanut butter instead of dropping cash on every supplement I see online. Meal prepping twice a week keeps my macros on point, and I'm still making solid gains in the gym.

Food first, supplements second. Hit your protein and keep pushing those weights.

I've been lifting for years, and honestly, some of my best progress came from basic home-cooked meals. Chicken thighs, lean beef, eggs, rice, and frozen veggies are my everyday staples. I save money, recover well, and don't have to overthink my nutrition every single day.

I'm all about a budget-friendly lean bulk. People sometimes forget that you can get plenty of protein from regular groceries. I'd rather spend my money on quality food than keep buying another tub of powder.

That's exactly the approach I'm looking for! I'd rather spend money on affordable groceries, meal prep, and hitting my daily macros than keep buying expensive supplements. Building serious size while keeping the grocery bill under control is the real goal.

Cottage cheese, canned tuna, eggs, and milk are seriously underrated. Easy protein, affordable groceries, and no complicated meal plan. That's a win in my book.

My biggest tip is to stop chasing fancy fitness products and get your daily meals sorted first. I keep rice, oats, ground beef, bananas, and chicken in rotation. When I'm hitting my calories, training hard, and getting enough sleep, the gains take care of themselves. Supplements are convenient, but they're not magic.

Really appreciate all these suggestions! I'm going to switch up my weekly grocery list with more ground turkey, cottage cheese, eggs, oats, and rice. I also think planning meals ahead of time makes it easier to stay on track during a busy week. Nothing beats having your macros dialed in, getting quality workouts in, and seeing those gains without spending a fortune.
