Do knee and elbow sleeves actually help, or just placebo?
Everyone in the gym wears knee and elbow sleeves. Do they genuinely do anything for joint health and performance, or is it mostly placebo and fashion? Considering a pair for squats and bench.
Re: Do knee and elbow sleeves actually help, or just placebo?
They're useful but for specific reasons, not magic joint healing. Sleeves provide warmth and compression, which can make cranky joints feel better and more stable during heavy work. They don't fix or prevent injury on their own - they're a comfort and warmth aid, not a cure.

So they help the joint feel better, not actually protect it structurally?
Re: Do knee and elbow sleeves actually help, or just placebo?
Right. The warmth and proprioceptive feedback are real and helpful, especially for achy knees. Just don't think a sleeve replaces a proper warmup or good technique.

They're great for keeping joints warm in a cold gym and for a bit of confidence under heavy loads. I use knee sleeves on heavy squat days and skip them otherwise. Tool for the job, not an everyday necessity.

The placebo/confidence part isn't nothing either - if they make you feel more secure under a heavy bar, that has value. Just don't rely on them to mask actual pain you should be addressing. Warmth and comfort yes, painkiller no.

Makes sense - warmth, compression, confidence on heavy days, but not a substitute for warmup and technique. Grabbing knee sleeves for squat days. Cheers.
